Ken’s first blog post

January 22, 2012

You have to start somewhere, so this is it. At this point, I have no idea how often I will write, or whether I will write about music or yoga or what.

I have been playing music professionally for nearly 30 years. I have had the pleasure of playing with some of the greatest jazz musicians in the world. I have also been a bass teacher at Vancouver Island University since 2003. I have also been teaching there two days per week as a combo coach since 2007.

I have been interested in yoga since I was a child, but have only had a regular (more or less daily) yoga asana practice for just over 4 years.  I am now also a yoga teacher at Oceanside Yoga in Qualicum Beach. I have a regular 8am class on Mondays and Fridays, and in addition, sometimes fill in for other teachers when they need a sub.

I might sometimes review or comment on a gig I have played recently, or perhaps discuss my feelings about an upcoming gig. I might want to talk about something to do with music education, or I may expound on my fascination with some aspect of yoga. I like the idea that it doesn’t matter. I am sure it will evolve as I see what this medium is really all about. I confess I haven’t really spent much time looking at other blogs. Right now I am thinking that this blog will serve as the place for me to write at length about things that seem too detailed or lengthy to post on Facebook.
